First 8th Grade Writing Assignment

Nicole Matsumoto
Period 2
What is the Point of Reading and Writing?

"Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing." -Benjamin Franklin(brainquotes.com). The point of reading is to learn things about the past and new things. The point of writing is to share about our experience and knowledge.
We can read for pleasure or we can read to learn about information maybe we didn't know. Reading about the past is very important because we can improve on things that happened in the past. For example, we made the Constitution. From reading all the laws, we can make new laws or make some of the laws better. The 15th amendment changed to all citizens can vote. This gives full equality to blacks and whites. ( scholastic.com)
Another point in reading is we can learn new things. From reading, we can build on a small idea and make it a big idea. For example, in 1st grade you start out with adding and subtracting small numbers. Then in 3rd grade, we learn about adding and subtracting with variables. Also, we learn multiplying and dividing with and without variables. Now, we do all of it together. We use all the things we learn in the past, and use it all in one equation.
There are so many different writing ideas, from information, fiction, and even biography. One reason we write is we can share about our experiences. We can share personal stories or fictional stories. Sharing knowledge in writing can share new things to there that you might now know. Also, it can share information about the past.

Reading is important because we learn things about the past and new things. As I learn about the past, I learn about the past mistakes. Writing is equally important because we can share about our experiences and knowledge. As I share my experiences, I can teach others what I know.
